Gary Numan says it is “self-defeating” to continue to play his old songs but he admits he will be performing some old tracks on his latest tour.

He told BBC Breakfast he is excited by new material rather than re-visiting his early success.

Numan said there is “a debt” to perform some of his classic 1980s hits including Cars.
